FAQs about Current Insurance Contracts
No, professional indemnity insurance works as “blanket coverage for your profession” in the IT, media and consulting sectors and for certain services.
That means, all activities undertake by a freelancer or self-employed person in these areas are insured unless explicitly mentioned in the conditions on exclusions under professional indemnity insurance. A list of insured activities and subsequent registration is not required.
If you want to renew your contract, then you don’t need to do anything. Your contract is implicitly renewed for a further year unless terminated by either of the parties by giving one month’s notice at the end of the current insurance period.
You will automatically receive a renewal policy and a premium invoice for the next insurance year in the “My exali” customer area.

2. Please forward all correspondence regarding the damage directly to exali.com or the insurer, Markel.
3. Keep calm and do not let yourself be pushed into taking actions quickly and without thinking (by the injured party).
4. Do not make any premature commitments, admissions of fault, or concessions.
5. Do not make any payments or waive any claims yourself.
6. Provide us and the insurer with any and all correspondence and documents relating to the specific order (contracts, invoices, specifications, requirements etc.) before we process your claim.

Minimum Contract Term
The minimum contract period for professional indemnity insurance is one year, unless you choose to set your expiry or renewal date as 1 January of a year (this can be useful for tax purposes, for example). In this case, the minimum term is calculated based on the current year (up to 1 January of the following year) plus 12 months. You decide the exact start date and, where relevant, different renewal date yourself during the online application. Your responses are documented in your online policy accordingly.
Regular Termination of Contract
Your professional indemnity contract is always renewed for a further year unless terminated by one of the parties (policyholder or insurer) giving one month’s notice at the end of the insurance year.
Special Right of Termination
In addition to the ordinary right of termination upon end of contract, as described above, it is also possible to terminate your professional indemnity contract extraordinarily after a damage event has occurred and been processed. Your contract can also be terminated due to a “discontinuation of activity” (e.g. change in employment or termination of business). In these cases, you will be refunded for any premium you have overpaid.

If you need higher sums insured during the term of your contract (e.g. if a client for a new project requires higher amounts), you can increase these sums. The corresponding increase to your premium will be calculated and charged pro rata until the next main due date.
What Do I Need to Do to Change My Sums Insured?
You will find an upgrade function in the “My exali” customer area. This means that you can change your professional indemnity contract to provide higher coverage or choose other add-ons at any time. Afterwards, you can view and download the change documents (policy and difference calculation) in the customer area.
The quickest and easiest way to make changes to your data yourself is in the “My exali” customer area. Alternatively, you can notify us of any changes by e-mailing info@exali.com.
Changes to your credit card details are an exception: you can only change these as part of an upgrade or the annual report.
Your premium for your professional indemnity insurance will only be adjusted if your annual net turnover exceeds the €3.000.000 threshold.
Hint:
- We only ask you about your turnover on extension dates (= main due date) via the so-called exali.com online annual report (change report).
- If you exceed the threshold during the insurance year, you do not have to report this to your insurer.
- Your premium will only be adjusted for the new insurance period. Your premium for the insurance year just ended is not adjusted retrospectively, as is usually the case with other insurers.
